In 2021, El Salvador reaffirmed its commitment to the Paris Agreement by establishing mitigation actions and strengthening carbon sinks and reservoirs in agricultural landscapes within the AFOLU sector, subject to the availability of large-scale financing from international and national sources, with participation from the private sector.
To advance the implementation of these commitments, the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, with the support of UNDP’s NDC Implementation Agenda Project, conducted a series of consultation workshops and participatory development processes with various sectors. This process led to the development of 30 sectoral matrices containing specific proposals for each sector.
These matrixes were consolidated into the document “Sectoral Plans for the Implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions in El Salvador,” which serves as the basis for the “Catalog of Climate Finance Needs,” a tool that organizes and synthesizes priority actions to facilitate the mobilization and management of resources.
